Your AOG is preparing an extensive, unprecedented survey of AOG members and USAFA non-member graduates—we plan to survey EVERY graduate AOG member. The information we gather will shape AOG services and programs, the support we provide the Academy, and development efforts for years to come. We’ve contracted with a Denver firm, Corona Research, to accomplish this important task. Now that they’re on contract, our next task is to help them help us develop the actual survey.

Right now we’re putting together two teams—the Survey Design Group and Survey Decision Team. The Design Group will brainstorm survey questions with Corona, while the Decision Team will make final composition and execution recommendations. It’s important that both of these teams work quickly and efficiently in order to get a good survey to our members and targeted non-member grads in reasonable time-frame. In order to include as many grads as practical in this process, though, we’d like your help in opening the window on the process.

1. Please send this e-mail to your classmates and other grads with whom you are in contact
2. Ask them to send potential survey topics to Gary Howe (’69) at the AOG (gary.howe(AT)aogusafa.org) with a copy to Deb Braun (deb.braun(AT)aogusafa.org)

NLT Thursday 2 March.

One caveat: please remember, this is NOT a call for survey DATA. Rather, we’re looking for questions from which the data obtained would be of value to the AOG. GOOD Examples: Please ask about how much members value AOG support to chapters or how the AOG can better support chapters; Please ask about the value of the AOG selling USAFA-themed merchandise to grads and what items grads would most like to see offered; Please ask members to list or rank their view of current AOG funding priorities to support cadet activities.

We’ll take what we get by next week and roll it into the Design Group’s inputs and Corona’s recommendations to make the best survey possible—probably on the order of 35 questions. We’re hoping to complete survey design on or about 31 March and begin the survey in late May. To the largest extent possible, it will be conducted on-line to save cost. If all goes well, we hope to have preliminary results in time for the August meeting of the AOG Board of Directors.

Thanks in advance for your help and support.

2002 Boxing Wing Open Championships
A Salute to Coach Eddie Weichers

Friends of USAFA

On March 1-3, 2002, we will be celebrating the cadet Boxing Wing Open Championships. Coach Ed Weichers will be celebrating his 25th Wing Open at this time. This celebration gives us the opportunity to invite all boxers and friends, past and present, to come together and join in honoring Ed and his accomplishments. A bio is listed below.

Please forward to any boxer who may be interested. Feel free to reply to this email, Mike Jensen '84 or contact Coach Al Wile al.wile@usafa.af.mil or call 1-800-GO-AFA-GO for more information.

Thanks for your time.

Coach Eddie Weichers, the only boxing coach/coordinator ever at the United States Air Force Academy, will be celebrating the anniversary of his 25th Wing Open Boxing Championship 1-3 Mar 2002 at the Air Force Academy. The headquarters for the event will be the beautiful Wyndham Colorado Springs, 5580 Tech Center Dr., Colorado Springs, CO 80919. The Wyndham has given us a great room rate of $65 per night for your stay. The agenda will be festive, with the Wing Open Saturday afternoon 2 March 2002 with a dinner banquet the same evening at the Wyndham. Registration information will be forthcoming, however, the Wyndham will begin taking reservations this week.

Coach Weichers began his coaching career at the United States Air Force Academy in 1976 after spending two years as an assistant boxing coach at his alma mater West Chester University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His legendary career has produced 198 All-American boxers and 79 individual National Champions. In his first year of intercollegiate competition in 1980 his Fighting Falcons became the first team in Academy history to garner a National Collegiate Championship. Since that first year his teams have added fourteen additional National Championships and finished runner-up seven times. In twenty-two years never has a Falcon boxing team finished lower than second in the nation, an astounding accomplishment.

His boxing career, as both a competitor and coach, spans the collegiate, national, international and professional levels. As a collegian, he won the 190-pound championship for West Chester University in 1973. Coach Weichers has conducted coaching seminars in Australia, Guatemala, Central America, New Zealand, Jamaica, Tahiti and Granada. While working as a boxing clinician for the Olympic Solidarity Boxing Program, Eddie was selected to coach the 1984 Australian Olympic Boxing team, which competed in the 1984 games in Los Angeles. He has also served as trainer and coach for Australiaís professional world champions Jeff Fenech and Jeff Harding.

Coach Weichers is quick to admit his first love and passion has always been collegiate boxing. He has served as president and vice-president of the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA). Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, Weichers has a Bachelors of Science degree in health and physical education from West Chester and a Master of Science degree in Arts and Sports Sciences from the University of Denver. He is currently as associate professor in the physical education department. He is currently married to the former Sheri L. Bunce of Colorado Springs, Colorado

If you have any posters, trophies, awards, or framed pictures that you'd like to present to the team captains, bring them. High quality Zoomie RFC gear and merchandise will be available, so bring your checkbook to
